Notes

Stake conference was today, and I took a few notes! (A friend asked me if I ever referred back to the notes I took at things like this, and I honestly don't very often. But I still feel like it helps me make sure I'm paying attention to and thinking about what the speakers are saying.)

Gate

Why did I never have a carport with a gate?

Corn Muffins

One of my friends made these corn muffins, which were a bit of an experiment. I think they turned out pretty well. (She also gets the credit for being my food stylist; I'm not that good at making food look pretty!)

Coils

The combination of colors and the large number of coils at a construction site caught my attention as I was going by.

Post-Game Traffic

I headed over to the Marriott Center after the game to see if I could get any good shots of the crowd, and ended up picking this one. This is why I'm glad I can walk or bike to big events.

Talent Show

Our ward had a talent show tonight, and this is a pull-back shot of the crowd, with our two emcees up front.

Bench Portrait

One of my friends asked if I would practice my photography on her, so that she could get some new photos and I could get some practice. I particularly liked this one. (Isn't she a perfect subject?)

Workshop

I went to a photography workshop today (focusing on lighting), and this is one of the photos I ended up with (I was playing with a softbox to camera left, and using some light coming in from above and behind the model to get a rim light). I really enjoyed the chance to experiment! (And the model, Christina Winn, is very easy to work with.)

Entryway

A local school's entry, at night. (As a side note, this is why I love having VR on my midrange zoom. This was handheld at 1/15th and an effective focal length of 57mm, and it's respectably sharp even when viewing the original full-res image.)

Barber Card

An enterprising barber gave me his business card on the bus tonight. I doubt I'll take him up on it, but I respect his dedication.

Sock Rags

When my socks get worn out, I cut them up and use them as rags (after bleaching them, so they're plenty clean).

Snowpaper

I may not be a huge fan of walking through the snow, but it can be pretty.

Hard Drive Self Portrait

A couple of years ago, just for fun, I disassembled a hard drive and took out the platter. I took it out and used it for an unconventional self portrait, since it makes an excellent mirror.

News

As I was walking to church I saw these newspapers all lined up on top of a mailbox. I thought there was potential for a good shot there, but it took a few angles (and a couple of different focal lengths) to find the one I liked. I ended up lying flat on my back (in my white shirt) while trying different angles, but it was worth it. And I think my shirt is fine, too.

Crossing Flags

These neon orange flags adorn a crosswalk near my apartment. They're to help get the attention of cars on the very busy street nearby, but I mostly prefer to just wait until there are no cars coming. I'd feel silly using a flag.

Taxes

I did my federal taxes today (and would've done my state taxes today too, except that the state website refused to work with either of the two computers I tried—they like neither Linux nor old Macs, apparently). I feel like such a good person for getting my taxes done sometime other than the evening of April 15th. And I'm looking forward to the refund I'm getting, too.

Confession: I meant to take this yesterday, but I forgot to do it before I went to bed. So the next day I took the shot I'd planned on getting the day before.

Wasatch Chorale

I had the opportunity to shoot tonight's concert of the Wasatch Chorale. It was rather enjoyable—both the concert itself, and the chance to photograph it.

Tanner Building

I was in the Tanner building this evening and decided to see what the view was like from the top floor, looking into the atrium.

Inception

I watched Inception tonight (filtered) with some family. It was an interesting movie; I'd probably not mind seeing it again some time.
